Indigenous Support Services
Indigenous Services, Mental Health - Child & Youth, Services for Children, and Services for Youth
Provided by Nenan Dane ẕaa Deh Zona Family Services Society
The program further supports children and youth in building strong family connections through research, genealogy, and assistance with registration through Indigenous Services Canada, Métis Nation, or other organizations. The Cultural Connections team serves individuals under 24 years of age and can be accessed by referral from the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD).
Family Services: Nenan’s Family Services team provides support and advocacy for families navigating government systems, primarily the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD), as well as health, education, and legal systems. The program empowers families to make healthy choices and supports them in creating and achieving personal and family goals.
The team works with families to build on their strengths and those of their communities by collaboratively developing and implementing prevention and intervention strategies that address issues placing children at risk within family and community structures. The Family Services program can be accessed through self-referral or referral from a community service agency such as MCFD, the Child Development Centre, or other partners.
Indigenous Child and Youth Mental Health (ICYMH): Nenan’s Indigenous Child & Youth Mental Health (ICYMH) team provides evidence-based treatments while respecting the traditional practices, values, and beliefs of Indigenous culture. The program offers support and education to children, youth, and their families on topics such as mental health, stress management, problem solving, conflict resolution, and social skill development.
Indigenous Supported Child Development (ISCD): The Indigenous Supported Child Development (ISCD) program provides culturally safe services for children across all areas of care. It supports children ages 0–6 with identified special needs by creating inclusive learning environments tailored to each child’s individual requirements. The program is designed to optimize developmental progress in settings that reflect the child’s cultural, societal, and family values, based on assessment and individualized planning.
